NursingCAS is operated by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) in partnership with Liaison International, the nation’s leading provider of centralized application services to health professions associations. Liaison currently works with many other disciplines, including dentistry, pharmacy, physician assistants, and public health. AACN is the national voice for university and four-year-college education programs in nursing. Representing more than 650 member schools of nursing at public and private institutions nationwide, AACN's educational, research, governmental advocacy, data collection, publications, and other programs work to establish quality standards for bachelor's- and graduate-degree nursing education, assist deans and directors to implement those standards, influence the nursing profession to improve health care, and promote public support of baccalaureate and graduate nursing education, research, and practice.

AACN has formed an advisory group to complete the work necessary to establishing the centralized application service. Led by Dr. Timothy Gaspar, dean of the University Of Toledo College Of Nursing, the group includes representatives from the West Texas Nursing Education Consortium (WTNEC). Click here to see a complete list of advisory group members. WTNEC successfully launched an application service in January 2009 for nursing students interested in applying to schools in West Texas. Eleven schools of nursing participated in this service, which processed almost 2,000 applications. WTNEC no longer operates and participating schools have since joined NursingCAS.
